How do you explain the fact that out of the 25 most dangerous cities in America in 2007, all have either a Black majority or a very large Black minority that is significantly higher than the national average of 12%.

Safest and Most Dangerous U.S. Cities, 2007 — Infoplease.com

1.Detroit 81.6% Black
2.St. Louis 51.2% Black
3.Flint 53.3% Black
4.Oakland 35.7% Black
5.Camden 53.3% Black
6.Birmingham 73.5% Black
7.North Charleston 49.4% Black
8.Memphis 61.4% Black
9.Richmond, California 36.1% Black
10.Cleveland 51% Black
11.Orlando 26.9% Black
12.Baltimore 64.3% Black
13.Little Rock 40.4% Black
14.Compton 40.3% Black
15.Youngstown 43.8% Black
16.Cincinnati 42.9% Black
17.Gary 84% Black
18.Kansas City, Missouri 31.2% Black
19.Dayton 43.1% Black
20.Newark 53.5% Black
21.Philadelphia 43.2% Black
22.Atlanta 61.4% Black
23.Jackson 70.6% Black
24.Buffalo 37.2% Black
25.Kansas City, Kansas 30.1% Black

So I would rather live in my safe "hicktown" than to live in any place that is majority Black/ has a very large Black population.

It's not the ethnicity of the people that makes those places dangerous, it's predominantly the cultural and socioeconomic issues.

Whoever said Atlanta is full of crap!! It has consistantly been in the top 3 most dangerous cities according to crime rate during the late 90's and early 2000's. And one of the neighborhoods (called Pittsburgh) was rated the most dangerous neighborhood in the country a couple of years ago. I remember going through there on field trips and being told to get under my seat due to automatic gunfire going off!!!

Why don't you look at the poverty levels in those cities. While not the only factor, poverty itself is an undeniable contributor to crime.

West Virginia for example has alot of overwhelmingly White cities/towns with a significant level of poverty yet none of them ever make it on the list of the top 25 murder capitals of America. How do you explain that ?

He did mention cultural factors also. Furthermore, it is usually not just poverty, but concentrated poverty in dense, urban areas that make a significant difference.

Relevant excerpt from the book Inside Game, Outside Game: Winning Strategies for Saving Urban America by David Rusk:
Using the 1990 census, I calculated the relative concentration of poor persons by racial and ethnic group for fifty-eight metro areas where I have spoken and consulted. At that time, only 26 percent of poor whites lived in poverty neighborhoods, whereas 54 percent of poor Hispanics and 75 percent of poor blacks did so.

The concentration by race and ethnicity was even more dramatic in high-poverty neighborhoods, where 40 percent or more of the residents were poor: only 5 percent of all poor whites lived in high-poverty neighborhoods, in contrast to 18 percent of poor Hispanics and 32 percent of poor blacks. In effect, only one out of every twenty poor whites lived in a high-poverty neighborhood, the grim circumstance faced by one out of every three poor blacks.

Living in poverty is tough enough for any household, regardless of race. For the great majority of poor whites, however, poverty is an individual household condition. Most poor whites are not surrounded by other poor people. For most poor blacks, and, to a lesser degree, for poor Hispanics, poverty is a communal crisis, as well as an individual hardship.

How big are these 'towns'? You notice that the usual 'bad' cities are larger and very dense.

Poverty is not excuse for crime...but it sure makes it more likely.

Safest Cities Nationwide - Top 25 in 2008

I was checking out the racial demographics of the top 25 safest cities in the U.S for this year and most of them had a Black population of under 5%. The Blackest city on that list was only a mere 9% Black. In other words not a single city on the top 25 safest American cities list has a double digit percentage of Blacks, let alone a Black majority. So basically what that says is that the murder rate for American cities that are over 90% Nonblack is typically very low. For Americans who live in cities that have a very small Black population this is good news for them, but it's bad news for Americans who live in cities with a very large Black population.
