I searched and I haven't found this...although I am sure it has been asked. Here I go...

Where do y'all think the best fall is?

By "best" I mean the traditional great foliage, crisp but not freezing, lots of community activities, longish (like 3 months is ideal).

Vermont has the best I've seen. Outside of the Northeast the golden leaves of the aspen trees of the Rockies in Colorado are quite beautiful as well.

^^This. Easily Vermont. The colors I saw there in late October were so intense they were almost psychedelic. Nowhere else I've been in the fall comes close.

But what about the long fall season? The community celebrating fall? Things like that?

You might like something like this: LaFayette Apple Festival

If you drive up and down Route 20 in that area, you have a bunch of apple orchards and stands where you can get pumpkins, apple pies, apple fritters, bags/bushels of apples that you can pick, hayrides and this area is in between 2 quaint villages in Skaneateles and Cazenovia. It is about 10-15 minutes south of Syracuse. This is the biggest orchard in that area: Beak & Skiff Apple Orchard

Here's another festival in the area: Authorized Official Site for the 2014 Jordan Fall Festival, Jordan, NY 13080

and another one: Lioness Club of Central Square Apple Festival:

Some others in the area: Syracuse area Harvest Festivals, Haunted Houses & more

The foliage in Eastern MA doesn't last that long. Surprisingly I've found that the trees in the city itself are the last to lose their leaves. I'd imaging that it's because there are more buildings to block the wind.

As far as community celebrations, I can't think of any events off the top of my head, but it seems like everyone and their mother sells pumpkins in the fall. There are also a fair amount of apple orchards in MA so Apple cider isn't that hard to come by.

And Salem could probably make an argument for having worlds best Halloween.

Foliage is beautiful but really I love Fall for September and October-clear blue skies, ocean and air temps in the 70's, the sun doesn't set too early. I like November too for the cooler air and foliage but September and October are my favorite Months weather-wise on the East Coast.

Northeast Ohio falls are beautiful and long. Nothing like going on a bike ride through the Cleveland Metroparks or the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the fall, followed by some hot apple cider. We also have some of the best apple cider and maple syrup around. I'm getting excited for Fall just thinking about it.
