West Virginia:

1). That everyone is a redneck, hillbilly, or hick. Reality is most people in WV wouldn't associate with any of those.

2). That we are 20 years behind the times. Truth is WV is right on par with the rest of the country in innovation and practices.

3). That coal is the only thing we have. Although coal is a major industry in WV, we offer everything from manufacturing, tech research, chemical engineering, natural gas, alternative energy, aerospace, food processing, and even automobiles are made here.

Everyone in NJ looks and sounds like Snooki or that Situation.

Everyone is Italian (at least part)

Everyone lives in a city, or down the shore.

I remember someone telling me this saying about PA being Philly on one side, Pitt on the other, and Alabama in between.

Texas

That we're all right wing fanatics-

Texas is actually a moderate state when it comes to most people that you'll have day to day interactions with. It's just the GOP is so much more well organized in this state.

Everybody is a cowboy-

No explanation needed.

There are no black people-

Texas actually has the second highest black population in the country and is about the be the only state with two metro areas with a black population over 1 million (Houston and Dallas).

I agree. I feel badly for people from New Jersey because of what that awful show, "Jersey Shore", did to taint people's opinions of your state. I have met so many people from New Jersey who are just nice, down to earth, people and bear no resemblance whatsoever to the whole "guido" stereotype.

Yeah, yeah, yeah! I almost put that in my post, but that's a put-down of Alabama!

"Jersey Shore" is about the farthest thing from reality that I can think of in a tv show based on a place.
