I doubt they're coming to study the recent political history of the state they're visiting.

Crime plague? Murders and crime are down quite a bit from the past few years, and are at the lowest levels since they started keeping comparable stats in the 60's. There's a lot of crime in Chicago, yes, although really none of it anywhere near where tourists or visitors spend any time (where most city residents spend any time really).

How long is the OP in the country? Just to visit one place?
