What are some major metros that are booming right now and where it makes sense to move to for younger, single people? (at least 2 million pop, 4 seasons, outside of down south). Seattle and Mpls come to mind. Denver is too brown and plain, no water. Any other good options? Is Baltimore booming?
You say outside of down South, but have you been to the southern cities? If you have and they're not your cup of tea, ok -- but if you haven't and you're just going on stereotypes, you should check out Atlanta or Charlotte. Booming and livable? Yep.
Boston is booming but affordable is debatable. You can find affordable living outside the city but i guess it depends on ones
salary and what they consider affordable.

Booming right now (and basically all along) have been the Washington DC area, Boston, San Francisco, San Jose and Seattle. For some reason (unfamiliarity I'm guessing) many completely overlook DC thinking it's all government jobs, when in fact only 14% of the workforce works for the federal government (only 4th highest in the country). If you throw in contractors and government-related jobs that still only rises to 38%. If I were younger, single and looking to make some bucks/advance in the work place, I would most certainly take a hard look at the DC area.
Columbus OH if it isn't at 2 million in the metro, it is on its way and would fit.
Meh. I love Ohio State, but Columbus is pretty much impossible to live in without a car, unless you want to be confined to High Street. The downtown is extremely depressing.
If you have family/friends there and a car and enjoy suburban living Columbus is probably nice though. It has a moderate climate (to my standards) and is located right in the middle of a lot of different places.
