I would actually say New York State, Pennsylvania or Ohio. Canada is just a few hours away, as are the northeastern cities, and much of the Midwest and South is within a day's drive or a short 1-2 hour flight. Europe is relatively close. And if you have a desire to go West you can always take a 5 or 6 hour flight from one of the major airports.

Upstate New York would be a cool place to live since Montreal, Toronto, Boston and New York City are all just a few hours away.

I would say Florida, warm weather and close to Europe, South America, NYC, ... , west coast is too isolated.

Ottawa, Philadelphia and even Washington DC are also within a reasonable drive as well. This doesn't get into the lakes, mountains and coast either.

For the continental US, my top 3 are:

1. California: Excellent climate with coast and mountains. Closest to Asia. Contains multiple major cities

2. North Carolina: Warm (but not suffocating) summers and relatively mild winters. Coast and mountains. Between the major cities of the northeast and the deep south locations such as Atlanta and Florida

3. Virginia: Similar to NC, but a little cooler. Closer to the Bos-Wash cities.

The Keystone State, Pennsylvania- where Northeast meets Midwest and The South. Maryland is similar.

Either those two or Hawaii

Texas is centrally located in the U.S. Texas is within a three-hour flight of virtually every major metropolitan area in the continental United States, plus it's close to Mexico and Latin America. Texas may be a large state and it may take a day to cross it, but once you reach the border, you are within a day's drive of a large part of the South, the Midwest, and the Southwest, depending where you're at.

Florida? Really? A long narrow peninsula hanging off the far southeast corner of the continent? One way in and one way out? You get to the bottom and have to turn around and go back the way you came?

Not sure how it's "close to Europe and NYC" either. Every state on the east coast is "closer to Europe and NYC" than Florida.

You're right about the South America thing though.

yet within driving distance to nothing.

if flying time is the standard, then Kansas and Missouri would have even better location.
