So does Guyana. Did you know Philadelphia Pepper Pot came from the West Indies?

New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia.

My reason is that the mid-Atlantic is simply the lower northeastern United States, which means that it excludes the New England states.

^^^ I am aware of that short Wikipedia link. It contains the following quote: "There are differing interpretations as to the composition of the Mid-Atlantic." That's why I thought it would be interesting to poll CD'ers on this, but even more interesting to hear their reasons why.

It started with the Middle States (New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey) and has been gradually been extending into the further South beginning in the late 1800s. I personally regard the Mid-Atlantic to be New York to Virginia but others sometimes add North Carolina.

Sometimes you even see South Carolina and Georgia described as Mid-Atlantic but to me that is obviously wrong because Florida would then become the only state in the South Atlantic Region. That would not make any sense to say the least.

The Little League World Series Mid-Atlantic division consists of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Washington DC. Virginia and West Virginia are in the Southeast division.

I just thought I'd make things more complicated for city-data's sake.
