Of the cities without ANY major sports team (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL), which city is most deserving of a team, and which sport?

I'd say Las Vegas, and I would give them an NBA team. They're the biggest CSA with no team, and basketball seems to fit in well with my impression of the place.

Runner-up: I'd give Louisville an MLB team.

San Juan. Put an MLB team there and between the tourists and the natives attending games, plus the ad revenue from broadcasting games to the rest of Latin America, they'd clean up.

Id give Louisville an NBA team before MLB. They just makes bats here, it's not really a baseball mecca. Kentucky is Basketball INSANE. Listening to sports talk radio down here is excruciating when you want to hear about football, and they are discussing the finer points of basketball 4 months before the season starts.

I don't know about who "deserves" a team but I like the MLB in Puerto Rico idea. Im sure they would have a lock on most of the Carribean islands...maybe even dig into some of NYs fanbase.

Me personally, knowing why many pro sports leagues don't want to touch Vegas...I will have to say Va Beach. And I will have to say either NFL or NBA. This is a football state and everyone does NOT like Washingtons team. A "real" Virginian NFL team could be supported from here to -atleast- Richmond...even though they hold training camp for Washingtons team currently.

Las Vegas is a bad idea. The city is incredibly transient and nobody stays around long enough to be loyal to a team there.

I think they don't have any professional teams in Vegas because of the gambling/casinos and professional sports bookies, they would be throwing games left and right if they got a team lol

I'm going with an NBA team in Louisville. The state is basketball crazy and the entire state does not have a pro team at all. There was a successful ABA team there but through some political shenanigans they were not included in the NBA-ABA merger.

Las Vegas would be my second choice, but the obvious concern there is the gambling.

Albuquerque metro would have to double in population to even be considered and I honestly think if Las Vegas was meant to have major league sports it probably would have it already. Whatever 2.0 version of Las Vegas rolls out into the 21st century with is also a bit uncertain.

Of the poll choices I think Norfolk/VA Beach would best support a major league sports team. The surrounding Hampton Roads metro area is at 1.7 million on its own plus a potential range of fans from Richmond and the Delmarva areas. It would probably pull in a good following from the local military bases.

I agree with this. I lived in Vegas for 4 years, and honestly I never met anyone there who gave a $hit one way or the other about having a professional sports team. Everyone was either already too loyal to the teams from whatever city they moved there from, or they were content enough with college teams at UNLV.

To a lesser extent, the same could be said for Austin. Longhorns fever in Austin is just as big of a deal as any professional sports fever in any other city, and a long-time tradition. A pro team would just be a side-note and a distraction to UT sports.

My vote went to Louisville. Seems to really be an up-and-coming city that is definitely ready for a big 4 team.

I'd say maybe an NBA team for Louisville or VA Beach, which has a surprisingly large population in the region. None of the cities above could support a MLB team. They're not big enough to fill seats for 81 home games, and they're all too small as media markets. And I agree about Vegas. They could hit 5 million and I doubt anyone there would care about having a team.
