Last time I checked, Ocala wasn't in the panhandle. It goes further than just the panhandle. Jacksonville is pretty redneck, too. Heck, there are inland sections by Lake Okeechobee that are quite backwoods.
Jax is far enough north in FL to be humorously (and accurately) called south GA.

One thing we can agree on. However, Jacksonville is still squarely within the Florida boundaries.

I can post that in another reply in case you didn't read it the first or second time.
Does it matter if they identify with the south or not? They either ARE a state of the south or are not. Historically they ARE.

You can say Florida doesn't identify with the south too all day long, and the fact that it is a southern state both geographically and historically makes it a southern state no matter who says otherwise. This same logic applies to Maryland. It was a southern state then, it's a southern state now.

Now if we want to only talk about whether a state IDENTIFIES with a the north or south, then sure... Most people from the state of Maryland IDENTIFY with the north despite them being a southern state.

But really, Florida DOES identify with the south.

Seriously, why hasn't this thread closed yet?

Oh is that it? They don't identify with the South. LOL. Now that makes all the difference in the world. Amazing the education a person can get on these threads. Now I know the northern rednecks don't identify with the South. I will have to ask the Southern rednecks if they identify with their Northern brethren.

I know it does, but if some day a bunch of northerners took over Florida and everyone there "identified" with the north, then it wouldn't change Florida's "southern" status. That was the point.

None of them, that's like saying Indiana is seceded from the North because of migratory trends and political realignment.

It really wouldn't. It would still be southern. Just like if Georgia were taken over by a bunch of mid westerners. We wouldn't call Georgia a mid western state, would we?

The only thing that would change is the perception of the word southern. As Kathryn correctly stated earlier, things change over time.
