The Accent is very thick in the middle and southern part of the state, especially in rural areas. It tends to soften up quite a bit when you get to PA and MD.

And I dated had two long term relationships with West Virginia Girls. One had no accent at all, the other had a very slight accent. Both were highly educated (I think that does make a difference).

So this means NJ is not a northeastern state, since NJ goes further south than PA?

The Northeast line is not perfectly straight -- never has been.

There should be a sign at Cape May saying "southernmost point in the northeast"
