The argument for the Mason-Dixon line could be thrown away ENTIRELY and geographically Maryland STILL would be in the South because it's in the lower half of the CONTINENTAL US, not including AK and HI.

The middle of the US is a few miles Northwest of Lebanon, Kansas. The entire state of Maryland is below this and a very slight part of Southern Pennsylvania, too. So the. East-west portion of the Mason-Dixon line is actually further South than the middle of the country. So even if the border between PA and MD was never meant to divide North and South, geographically MD is still in the South.

Even if Maryland had the most Northern culture of the East Coast (it doesn't by any stretch of the imagination), by coordinates alone, it is geographically the second most North Southern state. The first would be West Virgina because of the panhandle.

By the way, Baltimore's version of the Reading Terminal Market, along with offering Southern food, offers racoon meat. Yeah, very Northeastern city there. But that's none of my business *sips Arnold Palmer made with sweet tea*

Maryland: too Northern to be Southern but too Southern to be Northern. Ask anyone in Maryland if the state is North or South and the overwhelming response is: "that's a loaded question".
