New Orleans is the odd man out on that list but I just love the culture and vibe of that city. It's also one of the first cities I was ever introduced to, I have family there, friends (went to a Jesuit College in Mobile, AL) and my parents and grandparents would only be a few hours away.
1. SOMA, San Francisco, CA
2. Presidio, San Francisco, CA
3. Back Bay or Beacon Hill, Boston, MA
4. Beverly Hills, CA (at least I've achieved one of my goals...)
5. Venice, CA (oh snap!! Two goals met!)
Actually, I'm somewhat torn in terms of the Presidio: I absolutely love the turn-of-the-century officer's houses with wraparound porches and the fact that it is a 5-minute drive to the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, and North Beach, but in many respects, I would choose Treasure Island first. Yes, Treasure Island... it reminds me of my childhood on military bases (nice and homey), and I'd get my very own neat little townhouse with a 2-car garage on an island in the middle of San Francisco bay... which I had for about six months before I moved to the Inner Richmond to be in the city proper. The downside to TI was that I couldn't walk to any restaurants or shops... but... if I had a place in a high rise in SOMA, I suppose that I'd want a break from the action anyways
