Basically, is your city associated with or represented by any form of mythological place or character? If so, do you think that this character/place speaks to the character of your city or holds some kind of esoteric tale to be told about your city? Norfolk has chosen to be "unofficially" represented by the Mermaid...knowing the character of this creature I can see why, probably different than what they intended...you can find different colored/decorated Mermaid statues all over the city pointing every which way... needless to say the youngsters have officially chosen the Shark to represent them. I take it the Shark eats the Mermaid and is supposed to be a more masculine/urban representation/ideology of the city. VA Beach has chosen this guy.

It seems pretty self explanatory but some people take it to mean something else.
How about your city?

I can see how Bacchus fits Vegas. God of wine associated with orgies/ what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. I see they have a few statues around a few Vegas hotel. Strange enough though they have a Bacchanalian Festival in Key West FLA.

Venus and Hollywood?

...ok... sex, love?,beauty, enticement, seduction I guess I can see that, is this official?

JerseyGirl, if youre talking about the hockey team mascot then Im afraid not. Im mainly asking for cities that use these characters. Like I think Atlanta is associated with the Phoenix and I would imagine that is because it (Atlanta) was burned down and rose again...stuff like that. Now if there is a city in Jersey that is associated with the Devil then...

No, no the Jersey Devil is an urban legend. He/it apparently lives in the woods of the Pinelands. There are certain towns in south Jersey where he is said to reside. Some people go looking for him down there. It's the inspiration for the name of the hockey team.
