I visit Canada a lot and in many ways I feel like Oregon and Washington have more in common with Anglophone Canada than they do with most of the rest of the United States. People are polite but shy and reserved in Canada and the Pacific Northwest while the rest of the US seems to be populated with bubbly extroverts or "proud and loud" types. Even the accent of Oregon and Washington natives is pretty similar to the Canadian accent. "Bag" is pronounced like "bayg" by many here.

I think if you took traits like the political views of the people and the level of religiosity Oregon and Washington would group closer to Canada than to most US states. The only big differences IMO is that Oregon and Washington have a lot of libertarians and Hispanics, both endangered species in Canada lol.

Nope, my experience only but friends and family in Canada are not the least bit like the people I lived around in the PNW.

No. We have a close relationship with B.C., but there's a distinct difference between our cultures. Maybe a few slight similarities in dialects, like the "bag/begg" thing, but still quite different.

Surely Oregonians and Washingtonians are more like Canadians than they are like say, Texans, though.

Um, ok? And by that logic I guess you could also say that Chicagoans are more like Arkansas than they are like say, Malaysians.

No matter how you look at it, they're just different.

BC probably has a more "neutral" accent than the Prairies and most of Ontario.
