Sorry but none of the communities you listed can really be called white dominated. Most of the crime in those communities probably comes from all the low income minorities who fled LA.

Just a thought:
Maybe at least PART of the reason minority-dominated areas are often dubbed unsafe is because of the violent hate crimes that would often be present in the area?

I lived in a place that was similar to what you described about Suffolk County. I lived in Paulding County for middle school, high school, and short stints, adding up to about 9 years. There are some meth issues out there. My little brother was walking through the neighboring subdivision with a friend of his. They walked past a house. The next day there was an explosion. There was a meth lab explosion. Bartow County is north of Paulding. It was long known as the "meth capital of Georgia". Today it's Polk County.
Last year I had some African-American neighbors. They were busted for marijuana. Please remember I have a no-snitch policy about marijuana. I think there are much more substances than that. That said, I have known more White people who have smoked marijuana than Black people, and I've been in front of them. From what I've witnessed, it was a matter of who got caught. My neighbors got caught.

The vast majority of violence committed by minorities, especially African-Americans, in minority-dominated areas, is committed intra-racially, meaning it's Black on Black, Mexican on Mexican, etc.

Central Islip is nowhere near white-dominated, it's probably not even 1/3rd white/non-hispanic now.

The Appalachians are the poorest areas of the US and crime there is not always accurately reported but I would much rather live in Southside Chicago or Compton rather than there.

I spent some time (few weeks) living in Appalachian areas of Ohio/PA/WV and the crime didn't appear high to me at all. Maybe because I'm used to "urban" crime or it's more spread out? IDK. Or maybe it's just certain areas or towns of Appalachia that are high crime? Poor? yeah in some areas, but to me it was just very boring and low density, lots of septic tanks some places barely had electricity.
I would prefer Southside Chicago or Compton than Appalachia, not do with crime but because rural areas are incredibly boring to me as is living in the middle of nowhere in general.

The Country Club Plaza area of Kansas City is predominantly white. But it has a very high crime rate that is essentially on par with the other worst neighborhoods in the city.
