If you are moving to another state but you just renewed your car tags/registration in the old state, do you have to change them? I know you have 30 days from your permanent new address for most states but could I just go a full year until I need to renew again? I'm not sure if I will be staying in the new state for a long time and at a permanent address. I had a friend who moved from AZ to TN and did this just fine. She was living in TN for 5 months until her AZ plates/registration expired and then just got new TN plate/registration? She left her old AZ address for insurance too until she had to renew.
I have heard people do this all the time and just wanted to make sure? Couldn't you just say you just moved here or are visiting if an officer looks at your registration? Is this what most people do? Is every state different?
