Re: Philly Italians - another thing that's notable is that South Philadelphia (population 168,000) is often thought as the city's "Little Italy", even though the equivalent to that of other cities would I guess be the Italian Market area. Part of the reason is that the most heavily Italian neighborhoods (zip codes 19145 and 19148) are contiguous with the Italian Market (19147), so maybe it does seem like one big "Little Italy." In most other cities, remaining Italian enclaves are a greater distance from the original settlement area.
Also for whatever reason Philadelphia's most high profile white ethnic culture is Italian and in Boston it's Irish, though both cities have large concentrations of both. Boston is certainly a notch ahead for Irish, but they seem pretty much tied when it comes to Italian.

Not really. Here is the Irish/Italian breakdown among the NHW population.
Boston:
Italian - 19.94%
Irish - 32.52%
Philadelphia:
Italian - 21.76%
Irish - 31.97%
These groups make up a larger share of the Boston MSA because Philly has more non-Whites than Boston. But both cities are pretty much neck and neck in terms of the share of the NHW population. And of course, Philly beats out Boston in terms of raw numbers.
Almost identical. Similar Jewish percentages of the population too. But Boston has more Irish immigrants (though admittedly not a large share of the overall Irish American population) and has more really Irish suburbs I think.

That's probably true. I think Philly is more known for Italians because most of our famous products are Italian. Cheesesteaks (Italian). Water Ice (Italian). Rocky (fictional, but Italian). Most controversial mayor (Italian).
