It's subjective. But I'd rather not have all the cloudy and rainy days of the PNW.

I disagree completely. This is how Southern culture gets destroyed. I've seen it time and time again. You couldn't pay me to listen to a transplant yap about how things are done back home.

I agree with Allen K but the problem I have with most Americans is that they can't see the other political viewpoints. I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative.. but I am an independent. I vote for the best political candidate regardless of political affiliation. Most Americans only see things in black and white.. when most issues are grey.

Then the culture sucks. No one comes to Louisiana and tries to change the culture. They embrace it.

We've lived all over the east coast, from Vermont to Florida, and would never live in the north again. I even hate going back to visit, these days. The pace, too many people, lot's of anger. Every place has its plusses and minus's. The South has dopey politics but there are other things that make the quality of life much better. I suppose it all depends what your priorities are.
You do realize that the Bos-Wash corridor doesn't constitute all of the Northeast, right?

True. Most issues are very grey. What most people do not realize is not the fact that liberals and conservatives disagree with each other, but the fact that their actions have affects on other people who just want to live their lives free of judgment and condemnation. I am very liberal and in an interracial relationship, and love living in the South. I don't wake up every morning and say "Hmmm who hates me today or is trying to make my life more difficult." I can respect many points of view and am generally receptive to critique because I realize everything is not personal, and most times is a direct reflection of being ignorant or not having been around something/people that are different than you. I agree with Allen K even being on totally different spectra, politically. I choose to live my life based on what makes me happy and embrace the fact that others have to find out their truth "ah ha moment" on their own terms. The sad part for me is thinking about all of the wonderful people or places to experience that we x off our list based on preconceived notions or a dark historical past. It is also sad that some people go their entire lives never finding/accepting their truth.

It is absolutely possible to live in the south as a liberal, though being a liberal in the south means something different than - say - living in the Pacific NW.

In what way? I'd say if anything the liberals in the South might be more liberal than liberals on the West Coast since they have to put up with extreme right wing attitudes on a regular basis. The liberals on the West Coast I'd say if anything tend to lean more towards libertarianism and capitalism than eastern liberals - google the "California Ideology".

Why would you even take time, time you will never get back, to write something like this?
Step away from the computer and go outside for a while. Really.
