The changes I witnessed in Portland over the years were sad for me to observe but people who are there now like it so they are in the driver's seat now. I am glad I experienced the city in the decades when it was really unique, interesting and unpretentious at a time when the word "trendy" was not yet been even invented.

I don't know about the smaller western cities that have been suggested although I have heard some like Boise and Salt Lake City might sound like what you are looking for. I am partial to the Midwest though.

There are some online tests you can take where you plug in your likes and dislikes in a city and that can lead you to places you might like. I remember a long time ago using a website called "Find Your Spot" before Cleveland was even on my radar but Cleveland was one of the top picks it made for me. Turns out it was correct. Who knew?

Both coasts and mountain west are hipster havens. Best bet is the Midwest.

Definitely. I bet Wanderlust Wisdom would just love the Twin Cities, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, or Detroit.

In all honesty, try these cities:

Smaller cities:
Billings, MT
Colorado Springs, CO
Oklahoma City, OK
Wichita, KS
Tallahassee, FL
Greenville, SC
Charleston, WV
Evansville, IN
Jacksonville, FL
Lafayette, LA
Anchorage, AK

Not-so-smaller cities:
Phoenix, AZ

Since the OP is looking to avoid the "pro-minority, anti-white" crowd(in their own words), a lot of Midwestern cities might be a little too black for them...

Grand Rapids MI may work, but I'm not 100% on that. Huntington WV may be another place to look into.

Good point. Perhaps Coeur d'Alene ID and Provo UT may work.

Every city is going to have some measure of diversity, It doesn't seem like the OP talking from a racial component so much as an Ideological one.

I thought the same thing about Grand Rapids. It's filling up with hipsters pretty fast though, i'm not sure how long it'll be before it gains it's own reputation. Either way I don't see a scenario where it's ever as bad as the places described.

After reading the OP again and mjlo' spots above, a military town may actually be a good choice. Near me, there's Watertown NY, which has Fort Drum Army Base close by and has a nice, walkable Downtown that has been seeing some investment. It isn't a big city at all(about 28,000) and is generally full of down to earth folks. This is an example and there are others that could/would fit.

Also, given the type of community the OP mentioned that he came from, perhaps a community that still has an ethnic flavor to it may work.
