Hispanic is used to group all people of Latin American heritage because they shared some cultural similarities and are usually recent immigrants.
They always confused me as Italian here in NYC.. Even Italians think I am Italian lol or else they think I am Albanian.

You can go back and see how not everyone has this perception.
I meant "no one here". I probably did misunderstand you; missed the context. I was saying not everywhere was the "Midwest perception" you mention

Let's not call it Midwest. We can call it Susan if that makes you happy. All I know is that there isn't actually an agreed upon perception of what Spaniards or "Hispanics" look like.

What does it matter if people think of Latino/Hispanic as a race? Isn't race all made up anyway?

Would you consider Diego Maradona or Juan Martin Del Potro (both "favorite sons" of Argentina) to be White?

But what about Maradona and Del Potro, specifically? I would not consider Maradona "white" at all but Delpo is more of a borderline case.
