That's why I was thinking NW MI near Traverse or maybe somewhere in Door County or around Green Bay. Both are close enough to decent sized markets, but still wilderness.

Right, I think there are a lot of options in the region unless OP needs to be within (say) and hour or two of (say) a million metro.
