We're planning a family trip and my mom wants a place with a beach. I would like a cool place to visit with good food and culture. I was thinking New Orleans. I know New Orleans doesn't have a beach but there is a beach nearby. it I just don't know how to get there and if it is too far from New Orleans since we are not driving. I was also thinking of California. I would like to go to Los Angeles but I know it is a sprawling city. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Virginia Beach has plenty of beaches (26 miles of them, to be exact). You can also visit a number of nearby cities with their own unique identities and downtowns, like Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Hampton.

Beach from New Orleans is not really doable without a car. Cool cities with good food and culture is both subjective and relative but I would say Savannah and Charleston both come to mind and it's a pretty short uber ride from each historic district to the beach. St Petersburg and Miami both work as well. And Chicago if the Lakefront beaches count, lol. And all over CA for sure.

Going to Gulf Shores or Panama from New Orleans is about 4 hours.
In LA you can stay in Santa Monica or Venice Beach for a walkable area. I stayed in Venice for 4 days without a car and was ok.

Charleston, SC has gotten super expensive. Take a look at the Florida gulf coast.

Absolutely. St. Petersburg/Clearwater beaches offer a host of amenities and a good range of rates with regard to lodging. Plus the beaches themselves are beautiful.

cool cities with great beaches in the US?
Hmmm, where do I even begin?

Boston has Cape Cod beaches.
New York has the Hamptons and the Jersey Shore
Philly has the Jersey Shore
DC has Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia beaches.

North Carolina has the outer banks.
South Carolina has the beaches outside of Charleston
Florida is basically one massive beach and has tons of fantastic beaches.
California has a ton of beaches
Even the Pacific Northwest has really beautiful beaches.
Hawaii?

I mean what else?
