I'm convinced that some people in the Deep South look down on North Carolina and Virginia for lacking SEC teams, only two states in the south without SEC teams. Even Texas, Kentucky, and Missouri have at least one SEC team. I can speak for North Carolina, we don't care! We love our ACC, yeah we're not the best in football but it's all about college basketball in the Tar Heel State! But I've ran across some from the Deep South who seem to look down on us for lacking SEC teams, therefore not being a "true southern state." So I have to ask, any opinions on North Carolina and Virginia from SEC fans?
SEC stands for Southeastern Conference. It is a conference of 14 teams playing college sports.
I see, thank you.
OP: In any case, if someone would "look down" on an already arbitrary concept such as state lines, while tossing in another concept(sports teams), which has no bearing on a 'persons' self worth,. . .then they are simply misguided.
If anything, it's the other way around. The Virginia and North Carolina schools actually look down on the SEC because academically, they're historically way behind the ACC (in fact, it's the chief reason why schools like UNC and UVA aren't in the SEC).
That said, times they are a-changin'. Many of the SEC schools are starting to gain some ground on the rest of the pack academically (heck, they're already ahead of the Big 12) and the ACC has whored itself out to the almighty dollar, first by inviting Louisville (arguably the weakest school academically of all major conferences) and now having some fake class scandals going on at UNC and Syracuse (and probably more).
