Hi,
We are relocating to Houston from Australia, and decide to sell almost everything.
But we do have great Miele washing machine, which cost us a fortune, and it will be very sad to sell it.
Plus, as far as I can see Mielse has very limited choice of washing machines in USA
I was trying to google it, but cant find any good answers.
miele support seems to be very useless as well
Should we be ok with using 220V wahing machine? Will we require transformer to change it to 110v?
I have limited understanding of this and would really appreciate someones personal experiences/advise.
Thx
Yes you will require a transformer to change it to 110 volts as a 220 volt machine won't work in the USA. Also the cycle of the spins might be off as well as I believe the hertz frequency is different between the USA and Australia. So my best advice is to sell your machine and get a machine in the USA that runs on 110 volts which will be compatible to the American electric system.
Most households in the US have access to 220V service. It would require some wiring and labor to bring 220 to the place where the washer is connected, but it's not impossible. Are you willing to spend a few hundred dollars to make this work?
Maybe call an electrician in the Houston area to get their thoughts on the matter?
As was said most homes have 220 already for the dryer, oven and air conditioner. However I believe Australia uses 50 hertz as opposed to the USA 60 hertz. This will probably be an insurmountable problem. Motors will run slower, electronics may not like it. I would sell it and buy a new one in the US. A new one will probably cost less than the shipping.
My company pays for the shipping, so that's not an issue.
This washing machine cost us more than 2000$, and if I want to buy Miele again, it will be another 2K , even in US.
As far as I know, Miele in USA do not have the same range as in Europe, and it is generally not as good..
I've seen on the other forums ppl were discussing the option of delivering Miele from Europe, and that's why I was wondering if anyone actually did it, and how it worked.
There mixed opinions in the internet...

It *might* be possible (albeit difficult) to have it rewired or refitted with components that are better compatible with 60-hertz service. You probably will need to have a new plug installed anyways (I believe Australian and US 220 outlets are different; are they?). Call around and check. But 220-240 VAC service is very much in use here.
If nothing else, it is a Miele, so in a pinch you could always ask yourself "what would Aussie50 do".
I used an Australian Thermomix appliance using 220V with no problem using 220V plug, but now I use a 110V version because where I live now does not have 220V outlets in the kitchen that I can use.
