They removed the tolls as a previous poster said. I think it was either this year or last year. Last I heard, they were to extend the tolls for another 10 years in 2010 but I guess something changed.

They removed it last year. They've been removing the toll plaza in the past year.

This cracks me up. I have an Ipass so I don't worry about change, but In the past when I forgot change I just took super intense non-toll freeways through the city. YOU CAN get drive through Chicago land with out toll roads. You just pay in time instead of cash.

I think tolls should be abolished in every state. It's just so annoying to slow down, wait in line, whip out your wallet and pay a toll. And it slows down your trip. I'd rather pay higher income taxes.

Several states have open road or automatic tolling in which you don't even have to slow down to pay your toll.

Jacksonville, FL eliminated all its tolls about two decades ago. But I wouldn't mind if the tolls came back.

Greater Orlando has one of the oddest / most confusing / most insidious / corrupt toll road systems in America. Nobody I know who lives in Metro ORLANDO pays any attention to the tolls. They drive right through the (unmanned) toll plazas and take their chances that no tickets will be mailed to their homes. Totally weird and completelty unenforceable.

That's not how it works anymore in most places (I assume). Here in Chicago over 90% of tolls are electronic, you just drive like normal on the road and don't even notice the "toll booths", it's just a system over the 3-5 lanes of the tollway and you zoom through like normal.

Not only the inconvenience. It annoys me because often the toll has long since paid for the road, and they continue to collect the toll as a sort of tax to bring $$ into the government. I say people in those states should pay their damn taxes and eliminate the tolls.
