Seems an abnormal cold spell is covering most of the USA with lots of snow.
Does this motivate people to move further south perhaps to Florida?

I miss hard cold, snowy US winters.... here in Europe winters are mild and rather rainy, not a lot of snow

This might be the winter that tips it in that direction for many. It seems way too early for this kind of severity in terms of snow/cold.

It just so happens that the richest and most developed places in the world are in relatively colder climes.

So no, snow and cold won't ultimately have much of an effect on mass movements of people.

When did we become so helpless and stupid? I do not want to offend anyone and I really sorry for the victims...but still ... people, it's just a snow! why are we so helpless?

I think the key is the abnormal part. I don't think abnormal weather plays a very big part in the decision to relocate. If so, you could just as easily focus on hurricanes in Florida.

People here have whined a bit about the temperatures, but no one seems to really care. I mean they aren't changing plans over it.

We haven't had any snow yet in Chicago though, once we get that I'm sure it will be another round of whining - although I looove the snow.

I'm sure it'll probably motivate a few people to move south, but depending on where they go they'll be trading long, crappy winters for equally long & crappy summers. You can add layers when it's cold. When it's 90+ with 50-80% humidity there's only so much clothing you can remove before getting hauled off to jail.

But the Cold is much much harder on vehicles. And just the ease of life. You see these people keeling over form snow shoveling. And all those layers and layers of clothes. I'm lazy and very active, gym, social events. Traveling and everything as so severely hampered by the cold snowy weather. Although the heat can be bad it is easier by in large, and swimming is fun!
