I am heading to Southern California in a few weeks (Loma Linda) and just wanted to know the best driving route this time of year. I know the one most people use is I-40 all the way until you get to California and then just take I-15 South. But I heard from another user on here that he just drove this route and it was horrific with snowstorms close to Albuquerque, NM and going towards Flagstaff, AZ.

So would a better route for me be to take I-40 W but then go I-30 W, I-20 W then eventually I-10 W. This would go through Dallas and then towards El Paso up to Phoenix and then California. It would add an extra hour and another 80 miles of driving.

But is this route safe and would be more free this time of year of snow/precipitation?
