Los Angeles.

I don't understand why people mentioned San Francisco because it's ALWAYS cold there and you'll need a lot of heavy jackets. Ever think of why North Face is from the Bay Area?

LOL, well, you'll never have to broom the snow off your car in SF. But even though SF proper is chilly, the SF Bay Area is not, once outside of SF proper. Berkeley would be a great place for the OP, I thought, for instance.

These are most of the qualities I want in a city. Minneapolis fits all of these but winter. I know people would say why not compromise, but iv been living in wisconsin my whole life and 6 months of winter (nov-april) is weighing too much on my psyche

Ha! I was going to say everything sounds like Mpls...except winter.

I am in the same position. Everything I want is here...except the weather. SF would be first on my list if I found it affordable.

What about San Diego? Loved it there! Downtown was great, lots to do, fantastic weather, COL seemed decent..

Just want to throw this in. In my 50 years of life, travel to all 50 States, many Canadian Provinces and multiple foreign nations, I've found there are very few open minded people. Just people who's minds are open and closed to different things than the other fella.

I lived in San Francisco for 5.5 years, never lived in the Bay Area places though. I did visit a few places like Berkeley and Fremont, but hardly ever. I only went out of "the city" if I had an assignment, biking with a group (I was into long distance cycling), or I was meeting up with someone to buy something. I can't really give much of an opinion, other than the Bay Area is all suburby and although there's a lot of so-called "hipsters," you'd have to be in SF or Oakland for that. Everywhere else is just families and pretty much everything in the Bay Area including SF close too early. LA have more nightowl joints than anywhere on the West Coast.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Austin! It has everything the poster is looking for... And definitely has the hipster scene.
