What would you say? Grouping all the states into groups of five based off similarities.

Missouri Maryland and Delaware don't belong in that group at all. They are not Southern states but from a modern standpoint Northern states with Southern influences.

Missouri Kansas and Nebraska are not Southern states. They belong with the states in black.

As someone who has traveled to all but one mainland state, these maps don't make any sense. What are these groups based on, similar geology, climates, people?

Based on the attitudes and styles of the people I met, I would have to set up more regions...

I think you would have to break Cali into north and south before you could achieve desired groupage

You guys are reading this wrong.....he/she said groups of 5 states; not 5 groups of states. There's a difference.

They are looking for 10 groups of 5 states

1. The New England states
Maine
New Hampshire
Vermont
Massachusetts
Connecticut (lets just make RI part of CT, it should be anyways)

2. The mid-atlantic
New York
Pennsylvania
New Jersey
Maryland
Delaware

3 the upper south
West Virginia
Virginia
North Carolina
Tennessee
Kentucky

4 the deep south
South Carolina
Georgia
Florida
Alabama
Mississippi
(we'll pretend Louisiana and Arkansas don't really exist to make it 5; but they'd be in this category too)

5 Great Lakes States
Ohio
Michigan
Indiana
Illinois
Wisconsin

6. The prarie states
Minnesota
Iowa
Missouri
North Dakota
South Dakota

7. Plains states
Nebraska
Kansas
Oklahoma
Texas
(Add a 3rd Dakota to make it 5)

8. Rocky Mountain States
Montana
Wyoming
Colorado
Utah
Idaho

9. Desert States
Nevada
New Mexico
Arizona
take the western part of Texas away and make it it's own state to fit into this category
^Ditto to either the "inland empire" of California or the SW part of Utah where the Warren Jeffs crowd lives

10. Pacific States
California
Oregon
Washington
Alaska
Hawaii
