Richmond isn't Northern VA, and the concept of "South" is not strictly rooted in geography.

And to say Florida is South because it's geographically south is silly. Hawaii is even further south so must be the Deep South. Same with Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and other territories of the U.S. Hawaii's Big Island must be the Deepest South you can get.

It's not Americans as a whole. It's ignorant Americans and plenty of foreigners. Especially the British ones.

Northern Virginia or not, it is all still a southern state and Florida is still a southern state. Just because people from other states choose to move there in big numbers doesn't change a thing. If the southern culture moves north in big numbers to a place like NJ, does that make it southern. I only go by geographic location, the west coast is still the west coast no matter how much people from other places move there. The north will always be the north. I guess an asterisk should be placed in the history books when studying geography next to southern states with exceptions. And it goes without saying that we are talking about the continental united states only and not the islands south of Florida.

Pretty much. All the transplants, mainly from the Northeast, move to southern urban areas. In most cases, and I doubt this will ever happen, they don't move to the super remote areas of the South. These remote areas are a lot more southern. In this case, most southern urban areas aren't stereotypically southern.
