Montanans, Alaskans Say States Among Top Places to Live
Holy demonyms, Batman!

Anyway, besides generally strong economies and low rates of poverty, one common thread I see there is lower population density. It's easy to think your state is the best when you likely live in a small and/or isolated town and have little reason to cross state borders or get much exposure to other places.

Also, most of those states are pretty white. I'd imagine POC are more likely to think their state isn't so tolerant and welcoming and think about greener pastures elsewhere.

Texas, for sure. Ohioans also tend to talk about how much they love living (or having lived) there.

I wouldn't put Maryland on this list, except for one thing: most of us LOVE our state flag and think that it's the best one in the whole country. But that's about as far as we go with the state-pride thing.
