My mistake then. I'm honestly not familiar with either of their clothing sections. I meant more so in terms of cleaning supplies, school supplies, electronics, movies, home goods (towels, etc), toiletries, etc.
That stuff, yes, is very similar in both stores. And I've found our local Target to get just as trashy and picked over as the Walmart. I guess it comes down to individual stores.
The only significant difference I can think up between Target and Walmart is scale. Targets tend to be somewhat smaller, lower ceilings and are laid out more like a department store than a warehouse.

I think that is its appeal to many people.
Good points, as I mentioned earlier about Target, it has roots as Dayton's Department Store versus Wal*Mart, which has more of a wholesale/discount history.
Actually that Walmart is not in Minneapolis proper. It is in St Anthony which is the next city over. Stinson Blvd/ Highway 27 is the border of MPLS. There is however a Walmart in St Paul proper for what its worth I suppose.
There is one store inside Cincinnati city limits and residents fought like hell not to make that happen. Wal-Mart had to make several concessions to get that spot such as decreasing the size of the store, having no gas station, and additional road improvements in front of the store.
Boston does not have a Wal-Mart. We do have one Target already and a City Target is scheduled to open this upcoming summer as part of a new development.
Wal Mart is cheap and it offers the same crap as everywhere else for half the cost, why pay more? I know they treat their workers like **** but I am too cheap to shop at Kroger's.
Actually, Wal-Mart scored higher in the Human Rights Campaign's annual Corporate Equality Index survey. Wal-Mart came in at 90 while Kroger scored 85. Neither company is an Apple or Starbucks, but have come a long way from just five years ago.

I worked for a client that sold goods at Wal-Mart. They actually made a line of their product that was of inferior quality, but looked identical to their standard product, for Wal-Mart. They did this because it was the only way to get the product sold in to Wal-Mart. So, you think it's the same stuff, but it isn't. Check the SKUs.
No Wal-Marts in San Francisco, though they do have a grocery supply warehouse somewhere down on the Peninsula. They deliver groceries to SF addresses. Not to me, though.

Yeah, not sure. I just guessed that since it's mailing address is Minneapolis proper that it would then be technically located in Minneapolis. In any event, there are plenty of Wal-Marts in the Twin Cities area, but of course Targets there are multitudes.
