DC taxis to use ride-hailing app, much like Uber - WTOP.com

The dominos are beginning to fall. Either get with the program or go out of business. They seem to want to get with the program.

"All registered taxis in the nation's capital will be required to use an app allowing customers to order rides through their cellphones in what the D.C. Taxicab Commission calls the first such requirement in the country."

Some other cities have deployed apps already. I know the Philly app is vastly inferior to Uber at this time

maybe more competition is good though as they will be forced to step up their game on all front and likely more cost competitive.

Ironically uberX since launch here is hurting uber black car service moreso than the cabs at this point

They will have to change to stay relevant. The model is just better period. It needs to be a requirement. If we could get a national one that worked nationwide like uber, that would be huge.

Is it a requirement or an option for Philly cabs? The best thing about Uber is it works everywhere. We need the taxi app to be required and to be universal. The taxi cabs across the entire nation should unite to adopt the model. That is the only way they will survive.

not a requirement; part of the problem larger usage would be better but the app itself is also inferior
