I don't see any of these states merging. On the other hand, I heard a few weeks about a possible Florida and South Florida? I don't think that'll happen but it's interesting to hear it come up in conversation.

The idea would be all three but it is not going to happen. There will be 50 states only as far as we can surmise from now on, not less.

Realistically? None of them. The process for doing so is way too onerous. Both states would have to have statewide referendums to approve the move. Once approved it has to be brought to a vote in DC and then congress has to approve it.

Likely none of these states would ever join together, even if it makes sense. Most politicians will never surrender power voluntarily.

However I voted for the Dakotas. Should have been one state. Look at a map. Note how large Montana and Minnesota are but for some bizarre reason Dakota was divided into two.
