How do you pronounce the word "on"? (moving, accent)

Definitely awn, not ahn. I think I retained my family's Philadelphia pronunciation on that.

Outside the Western United States, the line between the two pronunciations is pretty darn close to the dividing line between Midland and Northern dialects.

Lots of Texans say "own" - as in, "Are we own for tonight?" Or "Don't forget to put your boots own!" Not all Texans of course, but I hear it pretty regularly and it always jars my ears a little.

Yes Kathryn I say "ahn" too. Right across the border in La. But I hear own for onand other southern pronunciations like for example "akern" for acorn.

Funny, listening to it, that's exactly how I would pronounce it but I would spell it like "ahn." There is a distinct "aw" in the way I say "lawn" and "fawn." It does not sounds the same as "on" for me.

I voted "ahn", but I guess I have the situation mentioned earlier in the thread where "ahn" and "awn" sound the same to me.

I say words like lawn, dawn, and fawn with an "ahhhhhh" sound. The sound that the dentist or doctor might ask you to make when they're want your mouth open wide. No w.

I agree - in my dialect, "lawn and fawn" are pronounced differently from "bond."
