I know it's popular in the Northeast and the West from Colorado to the Pacific. Is Skiing or Snowboarding popular in other parts of the country?

Its pretty popular here in the Upper Midwest as well though it's mostly a white upper-middle class thing.

True, and isn't that just about everywhere in the country?

How so? I'm solidly middle class and downhill ski fairly often in the winter. I would definitely not consider most of the people who ski at resorts in Minnesota or the rest of the Upper Midwest as upper-middle class. Lutsen is fairly pricey, but even I could afford a weekend up there if I wanted to.

Well, skiing is definitely dominated by wealthier-than-average white people. I don't know that this is even something anyone would question! I also don't know that this is any more prevelent in the Upper Midwest vs anywhere else in the country.

I grew up skiing a good bit, and we were middle class, but we also didn't have primo equipment/season passes/road trips to the rockies, either. The rich kids who skied went to New Hampshire, or Colorado, or wherever, during Christmas break.

It's pretty popular in Minnesota. My neighbors ski, my friends here ski. My first down hill skiing experience was in Hastings, just southeast of the Twin Cities, but there are other popular resorts around the metro, and state as well. Lutsen is a pretty scenic resort on the North Shore. It overlooks Lake Superior and skiing down it is pretty awesome!

Yep. Snobs. Especially the snowboarders. I haven't met one yet that isn't a jacka**.
