For New England states..
MA: Springfield, Brockton, and Lynn.
CT: Bridgeport and Hartford
RI: Pawtucket (the bucket)
NH: Berlin and Manchester
Maine: Lewiston and Auburn
Vermont: Rutland (it's not that bad, but Vermonters seem to think it is).
In Washington state - Tacoma is and always will be Seattle's whipping boy, even with all the remarkable improvements the city has recently undergone. Statewide, Yakima (Crackima) is universally picked on. Aberdeen is pretty depressing. Up in BC, Surrey seems to be the punching bag city in the Vancouver area.
In Colorado, definitely Pueblo.

Rio Rancho is just a desert suburb with not much of a bad reputation at all, if anything its fairly well thought of. Farmington is the pits, I hear many use it as a punchline for jokes. Las Vegas, NM is kind of strange and Hobbs is described as the seventh layer of hell. But yeah Española always gets a lot of hard knocks.

I guess most states have more than a hand full of cities with a less than stellar reputations. In Connecticut, Waterbury is not so bad. New Haven away from the few block radius around the Yale campus is very dicey and has a high violent crime rate. I think Bridgeport has the worst reputation in the state. In Massachusetts, Lynn and Chelsea are locally picked on around Boston, Springfield is the worst in the state. I disagree about Providence, RI though. Outside of a few dicey neighborhoods Providence is pretty well liked, has a nice college town presence, and has a vibrant and safe downtown.
I never really hear of people bashing the Tri-Cities, especially compared to a lot of other places in the state. The worst I hear is people hating the heat and the wind and sometimes people will talk negatively about the high gang and illegal immigrant population in Pasco, but that's pretty much it.
I didn't hear it either until I moved to Eastern WA. The tri-cities aren't even on anybody's radar in Seattle. Go to Spokane though, or elsewhere in Eastern WA, and trust me... you'll hear lots of tri-cities bashing. Yakima is pretty much a statewide punching bag though. East or West. I also remember some downtalking about Aberdeen when I lived in Seattle, but not enough to call it one of the state's most hated cities.

Maybe for Phoenicians, but not for the whole state. Phoenix was the only place I ever heard people in AZ speak negatively about Tucson, and believe me... the feeling was very much mutual in Tucson towards Phoenix. However, I did hear a lot of negative comments about Phoenix from around the state.
Yuma is pretty much commonly made fun of all over the state though, and Kingman is hated in Northern AZ as well as in Las Vegas. Kingman is even worse than Yuma, IMO.
Yeah, Yuma and Kingman are bad, but I think Ajo (due to its extreme poverty) and Bullhead City (due to its unusual name, harsh landscape, and extreme weather--even by Arizona standards) are hated more.

Green Valley gets a lot of hate too. I once saw a bumper sticker reading "Helen Keller is alive and driving in Green Valley, Arizona."

As a former resident of Mesa I know it gets a bad rap for it's conservative mormon heritage, but i've always found it ironic when people called it sprawling, as it's got a density greater than Phoenix or Tucson, or even a core city like Atlanta.
I really wouldn't call Mesa "dense" at all. It's pretty much 100% suburban. No real core. Single family tract homes and big suburban apartment complexes. And then there's a massive chunk of East Mesa that's all trailer parks. Largest concentration of trailer parks in the nation, if I'm not mistaken.
Mesa fills out it's political boundaries better than Phoenix does, making the numbers look better on paper, but more dense than central Phoenix? No way.

The last time I was in Kingman was back in '02 or '03. I had a conversation with a waitress at a truck stop in which I informed her of a trend sweeping the nation: the smoking ban. She had never heard of the concept even though it had already been implemented in all of California and in most of Arizona. She was truly dumbstruck and found the notion of a smoking ban to be the pinnacle of absurdity. I then asked for a newspaper to read while eating my breakfast, and she replied, "folks 'round here don't really read."
Kingman feels like something out of a David Lynch movie, whereas Bullhead City, being home to all the Laughlin casinos employees, has more of a dime-a-dozen, depressed working-class feel to it.
It's hard to say which is worse.
