Have you ever been to the Mississippi Delta? I don't know what you mean by society ills other than the obvious lack of opportunities. The people are for the most part, very nice, crime in rural Mississippi is low and contrary to what the movies and the media try to portray, Whites and African Americans co-exist relatively peacefully.

Of course, you will find a lot of ignorant, uneducated people in small town Mississippi but the place has a lot of character and it is very different from any other state I have ever been to. I love Mississippi!

One advantage that the Appalachians have over the Mississippi Delta is a lower risk of extreme weather. The Mississippi Delta has a moderate risk of tornadoes and violent thunderstorms for eight months of the year (October-May), and it's hotter than hell during the other four months with minimal tornado activity (June-September). It's also close enough to the Gulf of Mexico to be susceptible to hurricanes. On the other hand, the worst weather in the Appalachians tends to be blizzards, though the southern end of the region does get some tornado activity as well.

No neither of them are in the mountains, they are in the valley. However on clear day we get lots of great views of them. You are definitely right about the weather. The hurricanes on the coast do scare a lot of people. We do get tornadoes, but not as many as the Mississippi delta. We do get snow, but really most blizzards would be way up high in the mountains where most people do not live. Makes for great scenery however when its 50-60 degrees in the valley and you can look at the snow capped mountains.

If there are any Whites to co-exist with in many Delta towns. Tchula is about 97% Black and the school they go to are essentially 100% Black, with maybe a student or 2 of a different background. If there are any White children in the town, they largely go to the local private school(s). S V Marshall High School - Public School

S V Marshall Elementary School - Public School

Mileston Middle School - Public School

Central Holmes Christian School - Private School
