Happiness indicators include people walking around with a smile, there is less road rage, etc.

At this point, I'd have to say Colorado. They have good weather, plenty of green outdoor space to stay active, mountains nearby for skiing and of course, marijuana is legal so they can mellow out.

Hawaii usually tops lists of this sort.

It's definitely NOT the South. The South has high levels of welfare usage, poverty, unemployment and obesity -- all things that take away from happiness. Tampa was recently found to be the #1 most depressing metro area in the nation.

I think the happiest are probably in Colorado, Utah, etc.

I don't think location matters when talking about large regions. Many aspects of being happy are very personal things.

Hahaha take Boston, Providence, New York, and Hartford off the list if road rage is a part of this. It's a fun experience visiting friends and family in New England.

That said, I've found people to be very nice in Maine cities, the few that there are.

Otherwise, I definitely agree with the southern votes/comments. I couldn't choose specific cities on the poll though- I haven't been to all of them, so I wouldn't know if I was leaving one out.

Funny how the only two cities on the list voted for were Chicago and Detroit though.
