Can someone help me out on this forum? I am a "New Yorker" and want to relocate to another State, but don't know where to go that has reasonable apartment rentals (upscale), activities, restaurants, malls, art, culture on a smaller version of NYC.....I don't want to be with college kids, but don't want to be with old people....Does such a place exist? I have no idea.....Any help would be appreciated!

Santa Fe? It's super artsy, and not a college town, but there are art colonies nearby. I know there are many who wouldn't argue against the fact that Santa Fe is Culture City, USA. Not sure how the rent is but it has to be cheaper than NYC.

You need a state like.....nevermind.

What states are you interested in? Are you open to other parts of NY or the Northeast? What about city/area size?

Actually college towns are going to be your best option and most are probably not how you're imagining them to be. I would suggest checking out cities like Madison WI or Ann Arbor MI as well as smaller towns like Charlottesville VA or Chapel Hill NC which has free public transit for all residents.

I can't rep you, but I was thinking the same thing. A less popular area I thought about that may fit is the Lansing/East Lansing MI area which has this pretty good bus system: CATA - Capital Area Transportation Authority is the public transportation provider in Lansing, MI

Well, you answered 1 out of 3 questions, but the other 2?

Chicago. An affordable, urban city. Rents are reasonable compared to New York.
