What I'm saying is that anyone who visits Manhattan for the first time will have something of a wake-up call. They may feel their jaws hitting the pavement.
In the privacy of their own thoughts, they will begin to compare wherever else they may live or come from to what they are witnessing in front of them. It is a life-altering and quite natural human reaction. ;-)
That definitely wasn't my experience. I very much enjoyed Manhattan, but my sister and I got down on our knees and praised the Los Angeles grounds when we got back to California, literally.
My jaw hit the pavement when we accidentally walked into a porn room filled with booths with dirty, old men and clowns and dummies sitting on the shelves. Yeah.
LOL. Neither the people of San Francisco or Los Angeles obsess over New York. Angelenos don't think about New York, yet alone obsess over it.
You're right. It's posters on C-D who do. On City-Data, there are people who...
-Obssess over density and transit stats
-Know the density stats of the 25 largest cities in the U.S.
-Prefer year round winter in Newfoundland to Southern California
-Prefer to wear sweaters year round and never expose their skin
-Think clubs are for "superficial douchebags"
I've noticed this from some posters but not all, it's mostly trying to convince others, are there other cities whose residents obsess over NYC, shouldn't we be happy that not all of our cities are identical? This doesn't end with San Francisco, Philly, DC, Chicago, etc. All do it. I see threads such as what is your cities Queens/Brooklyn/LI, why the obsession? I'm glad my city of Los Angeles has its own identity and not constantly trying to measure up to New York, its a great city, the best this country has to off to tourists but no need for the obsession.
We couldn't care less. Can't speak for the other cities.

Another weird California thread.
I find most California threads compare NYC, or talk about NYC, for who knows what reason. I find it way more common in Los Angeles threads though.
I always find it annoying, I'm trying to read about LA, and I have to listen to LA people belittle another city, for no real apparent reason.
Can Californians leave NYers alone? This is another example...another Los Angeles person with an anti-NYC agenda, but trying to tie their agenda into an equally anti-SF agenda.
It gets tiring, Los Angeles, you can do better than that.
I agree. Angelenos don't compare LA to NY. It's the other way around. All ever hear is a constant reminder from New Yorkers about the "greatness" of their city. Apparently, humility is non existent in that city. And when they visit or move to LA, it's a constant comparison. You hear them making their point in a loud and obnoxious fashion as if they're preaching to an audience.
Exhibit A:
I'm very much not a New Yorker. Where did you get that from? I live in the Bay Area...
My comment was about the stupid title and pointing out the obvious of why everything gets compared to NY. It's the biggest city in the country, it's naturally going to be at the center of many comparisons. This isn't about obsession of other cities at all.

Can you identify one? Just one of the seemingly endless "Los Angeles threads" generated by purported local comparing Los Angeles to New York? Otherwise, you might want to consult a proctologist.

I'd say it's mainly the OP with the obsessed anti-NYC and anti-East Coast agenda, especially if you look at his past posts. Haters gonna hate I guess, it's nice to see we revolve around his everyday life though. However, it's really weird how he's using SF as a scapegoat for his petty hatred...Pretty random of him.

Exactly. I stay in the Los Angeles forum and there's only been one NY comparison thread most likely since the new year began, and it's comparing traffic, of all things.
