Exactly. I stay in the Los Angeles forum and there's only been one NY comparison thread most likely since the new year began, and it's comparing traffic, of all things.
The California forum on CD is freaking weird (including all the subforums). Everyone is so unhappy to the point I feel guilty if I ever have a great day.
No one really compares anything: it's just one big complaint.
"Oh I want to move away from....."
NO ONE IS STOPPING YOU! JUST GO! There are immigrants who come to America and establish themselves way more quickly than a lot of people ever plan to "leave".
The best posts are the people who already left, and shove it in people's faces that they left. If you're so happy, why do you keep thinking about your past? I don't think about my ex-girlfriends after I leave them. It's pretty unhealthy.

And that was generated by a person investigating whether to move here. If anything, the absence of that particular comparison is conspicuous by its absence. The dissimilarities are too great.

It just seems like everybody, but its really only the most disaffected crying in coach. But yeah, God forbid you say anything complementary about the place- that instantly qualifies you as a smug booster pushing the false gospel of Paradise Found. Causing people to leave "in droves".

I love that term, "in droves". It sounds like we aren't talking about human lives, but cattle being put onto trains. Of course, the people who end up replacing them don't count as people. I'm getting pretty sick of that cr*p.
California has lots of issues. You know what won't make it any better? Being a whiner. It's not California's fault that your wife left you, it's not California's fault that you were a s*it parent. A lot of people in general have stopped taking personal responsibility.
It's not just a California problem either: It's a problem with people in general. I hope I never teach my kids to be entitled p*icks.

And many those who complain most loudly of state-induced levantor ani syndrome are also self-appointed champions of...personal responsibility. Its just more pronounced here than many places because of the state's relative profile.

It's getting pretty tiring to read after a while. It's really unhealthy to focus on things that bring you pain all the time. Yeah, we all need a place to vent, but on a day-to-day basis over years and years? At that point, nothing would make you happy.
It's not limited to California, but it's the example I know the best.
Just like how some people are obsessed with other cities they've never been to, but always talk about ending up in. It's unhealthy and borderline pathetic.
Every city has an inferiority complex towards New York City.
you sure aren't describing Chicago. Chicagoans tend to think we've got the best city there is out there. I'm not saying others would agree with us…..i'm just saying how we see ourselves.
San Francisco's obsession with New York? It's funny because it is so ludicrous. Yes, San Francisco has an obsession with a city. That city happens to be the fourth largest in California and the second largest in its own metropolitan area, the Bay Area.
that city I speak of? It's called San Francisco. And San Franciscans have been obsessed with the place for, well, an eternity. you can't really blame them. and if you think they give a rat's ass about being 4th in population in their own state, or second to San Jose in the Bay Area, you have another thing coming.
San Francisco doesn't take a back seat to any city because it is, well…..San Francisco.
On the East Coast, Boston and DC "do not" obsess over NYC. If anything there is a rivalry that exist. With Boston, it's sports. With DC, it's power. However, Baltimore and Philly both d*ck ride New York to infinity.
