When you hear this term, which cities come to mind?

I think of places that punch above their population weight in science/technology, IT, and tech startups.

I think of
-San Fran, San Jose, and all the other cities in that region.
-Seattle
-Boston
-Washington DC
-Austin
-Raleigh/Durham
-Chattanooga

Obviously others that can argue to be in that list, but for me that's what sprang to mind.

I think that's a pretty good list, except Chattanooga.

It's probably on my radar because a decade ago, Jacksonville was the first city to want to do this, but we ended up not getting anything done. And Chattanooga did it.

It's a small thing, but still pretty significant for a metro of 500k. I think that's punching above your weight.

I think it takes a lot more than that to truly be a tech town though.

A large portion of my family used to make semiconductor chips at the various fab plants at the Butterfly Trail Industrial Complex near El Paso International Airport. The Atari consoles and game cartridges that were exhumed from the Alamogordo municipal landfill were also manufactured in El Paso.
