Name all the cities you know of that seem to have an almost equal influence of conservative military and liberal college town vibe.

Tucson. The University of Arizona campus is about a three mile drive on the Aviation Highway from the Davis Monthan Air Force Base.

Carlisle, PA. Home to the Carlisle Barracks hosting the US Army War College (for colonels on the way up), and a small liberal arts institution, Dickinson College. (Also one of the campuses of the Penn State Dickinson School of Law which might be considered a ticket splitter.)

There are a few liberals in COS, but it is in no way a "liberal" city.

The twin cities of Manhattan and Junction City, Kansas, with Kansas State University and Fort Riley. The university and the army base are about 15 miles apart.

In Seaside, California, Cal State Monterey Bay (then Monterey Peninsula College) and Fort Ord (now decommissioned) were less than a mile apart.

Maybe Dayton with the University of Dayton, Wright State and a few other colleges nearby, but Wright-Patterson AFB has a pretty big presence in the area too.

I don't know about the liberal college town aspect, but Clarksville TN has Austin Peay University and Fort Campbell Army Base in/near the city. Same with Dover DE which has Delaware State and Dover AFB, as well as Grand Forks ND with the University of North Dakota and Grand Forks AFB.
