As a young gay black male what metropolitan area would be best for me?I have a friend that lives in San Antonio but I'm afraid that I won't be accepted because the population there is mostly Hispanic and white. I would like to have the social choice to be able to date other races so the city can't be socially segregated. I know allot of people would say Atlanta. But I would like to avoid that area I don't want to be around the foolishness that happens there. Also I would prefer a warmer climate, I am a southerner. A place that is more urban and not too expensive would be great. Thanks to anyone that can give any advice.

The Cities I'm Looking at, but not limited to.
Houston
San Antonio
Miami
Charlotte( In my home state)

I dont want to move to an area that is largely Socially Segregated. Like i said I would like to move to a city were Blacks are largely accepted by other races. If i run into someone that is another race i would like to maybe have a chance for them liking me. I know that there will always be people that wont date me because im black. but i would like to have a chance. So Sugestions? And like i said Please dont Advise Atlanta. I dont like the feel of the black gay scene there. It feels a little "Rachet" if you know what that means. I'm 23 if that means anything.

Have you considered Durham? It's pretty integrated in terms of it's diversity in my opinion and extends beyond the usual Black-White diversity with a very substantial East/Southeast Asian, South Asian and Middle Eastern population along with Hispanic as well. The racial composition of Durham is: 42.45% White, 40.96% Black or African American, 5.07% Asian American, 0.51% Native American, 0.07% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, 8.28% some other race, and 2.66% two or more races. 14.22% were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 37.9% of the population were Non-Hispanic White. It has nowhere near the feel of Atlanta you describe and is among the top three most educated cities in the US. It has a thriving downtown area with plenty to do and a cost of living below the national average.

I dont know what the gay dating scene is like in those cities you listed, but I would probably go with Houston.

Yeah you're definitely young...that's all I'll say about that.

And you've said nothing about a job or a career. That will make the biggest difference in terms of a place to live, and that goes for anyone.

I think there are areas of Miami where you would find what you want...but they are not particularly affordable.

Texas is a big state so I think Austin, Dallas, Houston metropolitan areas. They're sophisticated cities.

Austin is actually one of the most liberal places in America.

What ever you do don't ever move to San Francisco it was a big mistake on my part. I wish I knew how racist the guys were before I moved here. I've only been here a week and it's been so obvious on how this city does not like anyone who isn't mainly Caucasian or of Asian decent. If I could do it all over again I would but it is a little better than the city I came from which was Cincinnati and it can't get more segregated than living in that city. Good luck on your search but highly avoid San Francisco and Cincinnati.

Unfortunately, Austin is not very diverse and is becoming horribly overpriced quickly. Otherwise it's a fine city and the live music scene and food scene amazing! I ended up choosing Dallas. Also from NC. and on the list before I moved was Houston, Orlando, Charlotte and Nashville and Denver. Good luck to the OP
