Well Middle America yeah probably so, but America is huge we have plenty of fun/tourist destinations without having to travel abroad.

From a shopping standpoint- Yes. There is hardly any variation in shopping opportunities across the regions considering the size of the country.

From a visitors perspective- no. There are a lot of interesting cities & sites in the US- the greatest range of climates and scenery in the world.

From a living perspective- perhaps. Depending on the city, but in general our larger cities except NYC, SF do feel quite generic overall and generally not as bustling as foreign counterparts in the same league.

There is certainly much to see and do in America, but "diversity" is a buzz word that gets thrown around a lot and does not mean much in reality. The sheer number of races/ethnicities/religions piled up into the same country does not make it interesting yet. There are very "diverse" countries in Africa (Congo or Cameroon) where most foreigners are afraid to set foot. There are mostly monocultural nations (New Zealand or Germany) which are much more interesting than any multikulti place. It is a combination of nature, culture and quality of life that makes a country interesting.
