As much as I hate to make another Maryland/Delaware topic, I want to see how the opinions on the Southerness of Maryland and Delaware and the Southerness of peninsular Florida overlap.

They're a hybrid of Northeastern/Southern but I consider them Southern moreso because of what is usually around me.

Southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore are a little southern, along with southern Delaware. However, they could really go either way between the South and Mid-Atlantic. The DC metro, Baltimore, and Wilmington are not the South in my book. Are you really going to visit Wilmington, Delaware or Baltimore and say, "Wow, I'm in the South!" I'm sorry, no way. So yeah, a few areas of Maryland and Delaware could be placed in the South, but I'd say both states are solidly Mid-Atlantic in the long run.

As for peninsular Florida, I wouldn't place it in the South. If it's south of Ocala/Daytona, I wouldn't place it in the South. Areas like Jacksonville and Tallahassee are definitely southern, though. You can't be that close to Georgia and Alabama and not be southern.

Southern doesn't mean anything except in a geographical sense. Professional mobility has changed the nation, being "Southern" has little meaning.
