When I say tree-covered, I mean trees tall enough and full enough to block the skies. What are some cities that have significant amount of tree-covered areas?

New Orleans area has plenty of these sites, they just aren't downtown. There's a very famously filmed road out in St. Bernard Parish like that. Google images St. Bernard Parish tunnel of trees. That's just one of many. Esplanade and a lot of neighborhoods uptown have streets like that.
What I call the Old Money neighborhoods in Syracuse(Scottholm, Sedgwick and Strathmore) have streets like or similar to that. There are some others as like this: http://goo.gl/maps/h4ytk
Pick a city you like, and then go to Google Street View in any neighborhood that interests you.
I am moving to the near northeast side of Madison, Wisconsin at the beginning of May, and I used Google Street view for my neighborhood. It is chock full o' green! (at least in the summer, when the trees have leaves).

Many of the cities east of Seattle, like ours have a lot of tree-lined streets and woods left, with the canopy covering much of the road. Nice, but can be a pain in a windstorm.
NYC's Upper West Side has an impressive amount of trees IMO and in the summer, when they're full and green, create a lot of shade. One of my favorite neighborhoods, for this reason - and also the brownstones the trees are lined up beside.
