You sound like Obama.

Quebec has every right to secede and if you take Obama with you, I'll go to war against Canada over it.

But yes, Quebec should be independent.

I remember hearing about it for the first time back in the early 90's. I have often wondered if the people there would regret it if the split ever does happen- mostly for economic reasons. I don't see that Quebec has enough industry to fully sustain a completely developed nation status and high standard of living on its own as an independent country.

Vaguely knew about the situation, but now judging from your response, I support it. I do plan to read more about it.

Well Quebec has two major world cities and more GDP and population than Denmark, Norway, New Zealand, Ireland, Finland and Iceland, we also have an abundance of natural resources in our northern expanse. Montréal is one of the biggest cities in North America. The most comparable independent country is Sweden. I think these are all viable countries even the ones like Norway and New Zealand with much smaller population, less GDP, minor cities and isolated location, so I don't see why Québec isn't. Montréal is a major hub of french language corporations like Bombardier and Ubisoft.

Hasn't it been mentioned that if Quebec were to separate from Canada, those northern parts of Quebec could stay behind, leaving only the strip near the Saint Lawrence?

That is a legend urban, actually. Anti-Quebec people use it as a solace of a kind. In the 1995 referendum it was understood that Quebec in its current borders will stay or will go.

Started by the English, French, and Spanish colonists. Funny how the world - especially those in those countries - forgets that.

We have lots to be proud of.

In terms of achievement on a world stage, we do have a lot to be proud of. Especially in the 20th century. In the 21st century..........
