Well to be fair dalparadise, the MLB isn't expanding anytime soon. Not this decade, probably not the next either. They have been clear that they are happy with the number of teams they already have.

So any expansion additions will be much further down the line and by that time a lot of these cities could very well do to support one.

The best bet for cities looking for an MLB team is for someone there to buy the Tampa Bay Rays.

Wanted to give more to Orlando and Austin but their location 80 miles from bigger sports markets like Tampa and San Antonio hinder them. Orlando is getting an MLS team though.
Kansas City and Atlanta are NEVER going to get an NHL team. Atlanta is not meant to be a good hockey market.

How many time does someone have to say the same thing in this thread? The Thrashers moved from Atlanta due to poor ownership and a sale to an outside buyer that wanted to move the team - much like te reason the Sonics moved to OKC or the Rams moved to St. Louis. It wasn't due to Atlanta being a bad hockey market any more than Seattle was a bad basketball market or LA was a bad football market.

Is anyplace really a baseball town anymore they play 162 games, NFL is the most popular sport in almost every US City now. My grandparents and parents love baseball but the sport is dying among young people. I love baseball in the summer but its a boring slow sport that is cool only if you go to the games, watching it on TV is boring as hell.

Hartford.

We should have never lost the Whalers. It was just greed from the owner, Karmanos. You can't blame Hartford and the fans as we did well to support them. Even companies in the area supported them well. There are so many fans still here. Our fanbase is still strong. We aren't even a team and we have the 18th highest merchandise sales. That's quite impressive if you ask me.

I still love baseball and I think a lot of other people do too. It is slow and it's really hard going from basketball season to baseball, but I don't think it is actually dying. There will always be older people, and if those are the ones watching it then so be it.

Going to the games is much more fun, but it's really like that with any sport. Nothing is more boring and slow than soccer...how many times can the ball change hands and no one ever score? It's crazy.

So you can understand the situation with Hartford but not with Atlanta? The owners were the problem in Atlanta too, not the fan base. Atlanta should have never lost the Thrashers either and with decent owners they wouldn't have moved. Too many people jump to the incorrect conclusion that fans were the problem without fully understanding the situation.

Add the fact that the Spurs have 4th most titles in the NBA (could have tied for 3rd this season, dammit) and it would make it a lot harder for that franchise to leave San Antonio.
